GLOBAL INFLUENCE

What do the President of Sierra Leone, the owner of the Chicago White Sox and the director of The Holiday have in common? They are all Washington DC college alumni. 

Washington DC attracts 100,000 college students across 23 campuses every year from around the globe who want to change the world. DC universities have produced Presidents, Prime Ministers, Senators, CEOs, Hollywood directors and professional sports team owners, holding the keys to many of the world's elite culture making institutions. How many of these influencers though take Christ with them? How many of their fields are being salted and softened by the peace of the gospel?




CULTURAL OBSTACLES

Many may think big cities are great destinations for people to abandon their faith. Isn't the religious competition and pressure to conform lethal to impressionable young people? DC in particular draws many contrasting types of people struggling alongside each other - conservative and liberal; secular and religious; north and south; rich and poor; local and global. Surprisingly, it is in places like these that Christianity has historically flourished. How? 

When people in these areas discover the truth of the gospel and turn away from the dissonant cultural messages surrounding them, they turn to Christ a with a greater ability to articulate the gospel's effect. Their stories reverberate with winsome power, and their newfound faith in Christ is not easily shaken. 

Imagine the global change if DC's young influentials had the opportunity to hear and respond to the gospel. 




EQUIPPED AND SENT

It was our 8 years in NYC that gave us a heart for urban college students who often times don't get a chance to truly hear the gospel. God also used this time to better equip us to respond to the myriad challenges and questions that urbanites often have about Christianity. We needed to show that Jesus is not just a moral teacher, but the missing piece to every person's experience in every culture at every time. We needed to show how faith in Him better answered their questions and more fully satisfied their deepest longings.
